|EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation has requested advice to help in revising the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for lead. Under the Clean Air Act, EPA is required to carry out a periodic review and revision, as appropriate, of the air quality criteria and the primary and secondary standards for six criteria air pollutants, which include lead.|
As part of that advice, CASAC provides advice on ambient air monitoring issues, including issues associated with sampling for quantifying ambient lead concentrations. EPA has considered retaining lead in total suspended particulates (Pb-TSP) as the indicator for ambient lead and the CASAC will provide advice on that approach and alternative approaches.
