What is an Early Action?

Early Action cleanup areas are parts of a Superfund site that EPA has determined may become a threat to people or the environment before the long-term cleanup for the site is completed.

Site Summary: The Jorgensen Forge property is located at 8531 East Marginal Way South, in Seattle, Washington. The site is adjacent to the Boeing Plant 2 facility and is within the boundaries of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund Site. The Jorgensen Forge site is one of several contamination investigations and cleanups taking place in the waterway.

The Jorgensen property has housed steel-related industrial operations since the 1940s. Previous investigations at the site found high concentrations of PCBs, total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead and nickel in soils. Concentrations of TPH and metals exceeding cleanup levels have also been detected in groundwater at the Jorgensen property.

EPA has released its proposed cleanup plan, called the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA), for public comment (see below).
