Federal Green Challenge Webinar – May 31, 2012


The FGC targets waste reduction, as well as improving the diversion rate at federal facilities by increasing recycling and composting. This session features expert speakers from the General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Webinar Recording and Presentations:

Lena Kofas is the national program coordinator for waste diversion and recycling at the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS) headquarters office. Since joining PBS's Environment Program in 2006, she has developed environmental training and guidance for property management professionals to promote sustainable management practices. Lena will share waste diversion results and highlight successful waste management and recycling practices from across GSA's owned building inventory.

Ed Murtagh, Sustainable Operations Manager at U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), will be covering the USDA Headquarters waste minimization and recycling program. His presentation will address program design, engaging employees through outreach and education, and monitoring performance. Mr. Murtagh is a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in sustainable construction and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) building practices, including energy management, indoor air quality, biobased products, waste minimization and recycling, and environmentally beneficial landscaping.
