GAR Electroforming is a small business specializing in the manufacturing of electroforms for government and private sectors. The facility entered EPA's Voluntary Corrective Action Program in July of 1996. Using available information, including groundwater monitoring data, EPA determined in April/June of 1999 that the facility had achieved EPA's Environmental Indicators.
The primary environmental concerns at the site include two former metal hydroxide lagoons and one Area of Concern (AOC) characterized as a release area of spent pumice from surface finishing of certain nickel products. The lagoons were closed in accordance with an approved closure plan in the late 1980's and are currently undergoing post closure monitoring.
The former Risdon facility is located upgradient and is suspected of being the primary origin of low-level dissolved-phase chlorinated hydrocarbons on the site.
The facility was notified by the CTDEP of its remaining Corrective Action obligations in August of 2005. The facility is currently proceeding to fulfill these obligations under the direct oversight of EPA. Specifically, a workplan to address the remaining AOC was approved in December of 2005 and will be implemented in August of 2006 in order to capitalize on technical and economic efficiences that will likely result by implementing the workplan during the dry season of the New England Region.
The Facility continues to operate as a small business manufacturing facility.
