EPA Issues New Best Practices Guidance for Research Models

(01/27/2004) - On Wednesday, Jan. 28, EPA Acting Deputy Administrator Steve Johnson and Science Advisor Paul Gilman will announce a new draft guidance and web-accessible database, the Models Knowledge Base, that makes the use of models more visible to stakeholders and the public. The database is an inventory of the agency’s most frequently used research models which includes information on a model’s use, development, validation and assessment. The “Draft Guidance on the Development, Evaluation, and Application of Regulatory Environmental Models” recommends best practices to determine when a research model can be appropriately used to inform a decision. Both products are available from EPA’s Council for Regulatory Environmental Modeling (CREM) at: http://www.epa.gov/crem.
