Local, state and federal officials will gather in Brownsville November 19 to officially open a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Border Outreach Office.
The new office will help inform area citizens about EPA activities and will help EPA obtain local perspectives about the Agency's U.S./Mexico border program. It will improve the Agency's coordination with state and local authorities and increase EPA's understanding of issues important to South Texas residents.
Officials participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony will include Congressman Solomon Ortiz, EPA Acting Regional Administrator Jerry Clifford, Brownsville Mayor Henry Gonzalez and Brownsville City Manager Carlos Rubinstein.
The director of EPA's El Paso Border Outreach Office, Marvin Waters, also will attend and will be available to answer questions in English and Spanish. Mr. Waters will be responsible for staffing the Brownsville office.
