(ATLANTA – Oct. 26, 2010) In celebration of Children’s Health Month, EPA Region 4 and the AT&T Pioneers Georgia Chapter of the TelecomPioneers, a Colorado nonprofit corporation, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the awareness on environmental health hazards that affect children at home, school, and in their communities - the places where they live, learn and play.
Through this MOU, the AT&T Pioneers and EPA Region 4’s Children’s Environmental Health (CEH) program will build a cooperative working relationship in areas of mutual agreement during the 2010 and 2011 calendar years. The areas of cooperation covered by this MOU include, but are not limited to:
- · Creation of an EPA/AT&T Pioneers partnership where the Pioneers will conduct and support children’s environmental health activities and programs.
· EPA will provide technical support for Pioneers’ environmental health initiatives.
· Provision of EPA experts and/or resources to support environmental health education and outreach activities which includes various training and educational programs.
· Partnership activities to include a Green Project, a light bulb distribution to Georgia communities (Light Up Georgia), a river clean-up activity (Rivers Alive), a children’s environmental health activity, and two other local environmental projects.
Leading up the to the signing of the MOU, the AT&T Pioneers have been instrumental in providing outreach to 38 Georgia communities which directly impacted over 7,000 children, parents ,and other caregivers. The continuation of these activities will help to inform and protect children, their parents, teachers and communities of environmental risks that prevent making their world a healthier place, now and for the future generations.
