Urban Waters - Neighborhood Assessment of Industrial Sources of Stomwater Pollution
This assistance agreement provides federal funding in the amount of $59,965 for an educational program to connect communitites to the Los Angeles River by engaging high school students from the Los Angeles Unified School District. The project consists of developing the students to understand the issues related to the Los Angeles River and then having the students perform outreach to the community around Compton Creek. UCLA, along with the Los Angeles Waterkeeper, will conduct a series of training sessions that will include lessons on stormwater pollution, the hydrological cycle, Clean Water Act, permits, and how to sample and conduct monitoring in the creek. These training sessions will allow the students to use the knowledge gained to educate the community about the ways to reduce the pollution impacts to Compton Creek.
