FY 14 Long Island Sound Improvement Projects
As directed by Sections 119(d) and 320 of the Clean Water Act, this project implements recommendations of the Long Island Sound Study (LISS) Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). The grant supports activities to: 1) serve as the state coordinator to ensure full participation by Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) on numerous LISS work groups (Habitat, Stewardship, Nonpoint, Total Maximum Daily Loads T(MDL), etc.), allow for effective technical integration and resource coordination including tracking and reporting, and provide technical support for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) revision and implementation; 2) oversee and conduct Long Island Sound (LIS) water quality monitoring activities, including monthly nutrient and hypoxia surveys, and conduct plankton community sampling and analyses; 3) support a state coordinator for a Habitat Restoration Initiative to promote stewardship, restoration and support sentinel site network; 4) Conduct water quality monitoring enhancements to support the hypoxia management in Long Island Sound; and 5) Support the Sentinel Monitoring Workgroup through the enhancement of the Sentinel Monitoring Data Citation Clearinghouse.
