Project Title & Description
Reducing Asthma Triggers
This project will target school leaders and parents on reducing asthma triggers in sensitive populations in Holyoke and Springfield, MA. Specifically, this project will address school-aged children with asthma by providing a training and advocacy program for top school leadership (school district staff, school committee members, and principals) to develop and implement district-wide policies and procedures to improve indoor and outdoor air quality at schools. Project outputs will include presentations to school leaders and parents/caregivers; at least 5,000 parents/caregivers receiving materials and information, 200 of whom will participate in presentations/events; at least 2 parents/caregivers participating in advocacy efforts with school leadership; 8 asthma sessions presented 65 students by 8 teams of 2 nursing students each; and at least 1 new district-wide policy to reduce risk factors for asthma onset and/or exacerbations.
