Project Title & Description
LAKE ERIE BATHING BEACH WATER QUALITY MONITORING
The Ohio Department of Health (DoH) will support the Beach Monitoring and Notification Program Implementation Project, in cooperation with state and local health officials and interested organizations, to address health risks to beach users. Ohio DoH is committed to assist in the continued assessment of the coastal Lake Erie border to test beach water in order to reduce the risk of exposure of beach users to disease-causing micro-organisms in coastal recreational waters. In order to increase and improve monitoring and notification efforts, Ohio DoH will undertake several key activities in support of the performance goals. The goals associated with this grant include: 1) Public exposures to pathogens will be reduced at beaches along the Ohio Lake Erie shoreline; 2) Water quality will be improved due to targeted monitoring efforts; 3) The public will be able to easily access beach sampling; and 4) Incidences of illness associated with recreational waters will be reduced.
