Project Title & Description
Fiscal Year 2014 Pollution Prevention Grant Program
This project focuses on reducing demand for water and the associated energy use, reducing risk of nitrate groundwater contamination and ensuring public and environmental health. Tasks will result in agricultural irrigators implementing an irrigation water management plan that includes soil water monitoring to determine when and how much water to apply and a gage to estimate trends in crop water use and in evaluating their system in terms of energy efficiency. It provides intensive pollution prevention education for 2 upper level engineering or agricultural students who will provide technical assistance. It also evaluates producers assisted in the past year to assess motivations for implementation of recommendations, determine duration / reoccurrence of benefits, and to quantify the impacts of the implementation.
Partial Federal funding is provided at this time. The balance of the Federal funds will be provided when the funds become available.
