Project Title & Description
Clean Air Act
This award provides funds for the recipient to improve indoor air quality by training school nurses, health care providers and parents of asthmatic children on asthma prevention and identification of asthma triggers in homes and schools. The recipient will work directly with 300 school nurses, coaches and other school staff on asthma prevention techniques, particularly the identification and removal of asthma triggers in the indoor environments of students. The recipient will also work with various parent associations, providing similar information on asthma triggers and asthma prevention. Also, the recipient will provide training on maintaining healthy school environments to school and tribal officials. Instruction and training on identification and removal of asthma triggers in homes and schools will result in healthier indoor air for the students who will ultimately benefit from the activity. By working directly with health care givers and with larger groups of parents, the recipient plans to reach a much larger population of asthmatic children than would otherwise beneit if the activity was designed to directly work with individual students.
