Environmental Education - Pilot New Program "Earth Works - Careers that Serve the Planet"
This agreement provides full EPA funding in the amount of $9,000. The Foundation proposes to pilot a new program, "Earth Works - Careers that Serve the Planet." The purpose is to educate 10th and 11th grade students about "careers that serve the planet" such as forestry and atmospheric, space, and earth sciences. Through the use of the property known as Blue Sky Meadow in the San Bernardino Mountains, Earth Works will address crosscutting topics via presentations by career professtionals, small-group work emphasizing local environmental issues, field study, and service learning projects such as habitat improvement/modification or native plant restoration. Through interactive discussions, written materials and guided activities, students will learn how to create and achieve their academic and vocational goals, including the steps that lead to careers in geology, meteorology, astronomy, teaching, environmental engineering, and forest management.
