Project Title & Description
TMDL Working Group for Environmental Results and Innovation
The project looks at the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program's environmental results to determine where the program stands in protecting, restoring, and improving waters nationally and across the States. The TMDL approach calculates the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and still meet water quality standards; the TMDL also includes an allocation of that amount to the pollutant's sources.
Parallel state workgroups-- one specifically examining environmental measures and the second exploring institutional improvements -- will strive to realize the following two goals: (1) assess accomplishments and status of the TMDL program and (2) provide recommendations as to program improvement. Monthly conferences will be held within the workgroups, and the two workgroups will convene in combination every two to three months as a steering committee.
Final products will include a report on environmental results and a report on institutional improvements.
This amendment is for $4,507.00 which will increase the travel funds total enough to cover travel for (1) eight state attendees coming to the August 19-20, 2009 meeting and (2) two additional participants to the ASIWPCA annual meeting. These two additional participants will be speaking about the project to the larger ASIWPCA membership. This funding is needed for successful completion of the grant and the funds will support activities that fit within the original scope of work.
