Project Title & Description
GWNO Community Stormwater Management & Revitalization Program
Under the proposed project, GWNO plans to create an adaptable outdoor curriculum focused on watershed and stormwater management for youth and residents in underserved New Orleans neighborhoods, to identify potential solutions to common environmental and public health issues, and to perform beneficial tree and flower plantings. GWNO will create an adaptable outdoor curriculum, consisting of service learning activities available to neighborhood youth and residents. The project will increase public engagement capacity and efforts by providing fun and educational neighborhood-based events, service learning opportunities at educational sites (e.g., Bayou Bienvenue, the Wetlands Plants Nursery, the Central City Rain Gardens, and the Earth Lab), integrating Environmental Justice topics into educational curricula, and performing free tree and flower adoptions for beautification of underserved neighborhoods.
