Project Title & Description
Importance-Ribbed Mussels-Atlantic Estuaries
This key goal of this project is to quantify the role that ribbed mussels play in promoting salt marsh accretion and nutrient removal. These two services are of immediate concern for coastal managers. Three specific tasks will examine these two ecosystem services by mussels. Findings from this project will aid managers who are faced with difficult decisions on how to direct limited resources to wetlands, and will have a direct bearing on whether nutrient loadings might impair the ability of coastal wetlands to keep pace with sea level.
