Project Title & Description
An Epidemiologic Study of Time Trends and Health Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants, Mercury.
This study examines the subsistence-based diet of Alaska natives and the potential health effects of contamination, as well as the impact of climate change on health. The study will focus on native pregnant women and infants in southwestern Alaska to determine tissue levels of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), mercury and omega-3 fatty acids. The health risks for mothers and children will be assessed, as well as an examination of potential links of POP/mercury contamination to climate change.
