Project Title & Description
Understanding the New Mexico State Permitting Process
The American Indian Law Center (AILC) will provide New Mexico tribal communities, tribal leaders, and other interested tribal non-governmental entities with information on state permitting processes and environmental justice. The project will be accomplished by publishing workshop material covering the step-by-step environmental and natural resources extraction permitting processes, and an introduction on environmental justice for tribes in New Mexico. The information will be disseminated at workshops held in tribal communities throughout the state.
The AILC proposes to provide four training workshops focused on two main issues. The first focus will be on understanding the basic state permitting procedures within three state agencies (the Environment Department, The Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department.
