Project Title & Description
Latino Childhood Lead Education Program
This project will provide outreach and deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate education to at least 1,500 Latino families with young children in 37 rural counties in Iowa. Target population is low income immigrant families in migrant farm worker communities and agribusiness industries. Among this population there is a suspected high incidence of childhood lead poisoning from lead-based paint in older housing and use of contaminated folk remedies. Existing partnerships with local health departments and Latino community groups will support lead screening.
