Project Title & Description
Friends of Palmyra Cove -Wetlands Education Program
Friends of Palmyra Cove is teaching 240 college, secondary and elementary school educators about the characteristics and environmental importance of wetlands. In 12 training sessions over a 12 month period, participants will learn how to identify wetlands and wetland plants and animals, survey macro invertebrates, test water quality and develop an understanding of wetland restoration and remediation. Participants will modify existing curricula to provide educational materials and activities specifically for Palmyra Cove Nature Preserve. Using the activities and materials, teachers will bring their students to Palmyra Cove Nature Park for hands on lessons in wetlands ecology. Students will learn about wetlands, how wetlands environments are linked to watersheds and how they can be environmental stewards for wetlands.
