Project Title & Description
Clean Air Act
This award provides funds for the recipient to improve the indoor air quality of the homes of asthmatic children through changes and improvements in the quality of care and advice provided by health care practices. The recipient will work with several programs/medical clinic networks that provide health care to disadvantaged populations in rural Northeast Colorado. Through improvements in asthma diagnosis and treatment, and through an improvement in the advice given to parents of asthmatic children on changes to be made in the home environment that remove asthma triggers such as second hand smoke from homes, the incidence of asthma attacks in the target population will be reduced. Part of the changes to be made through this project will be an increased and more effective second hand smoke awareness activity. The changes and improvements in care giving will be done primarily at the medical clinic level. By working directly with health care practitioners that serve a large number of patients, a greater number of patients will benefit when compared to an activity where asthmatic patients are visited individually in their homes.
