WVURC RGI Mine Flooding Inventory
The West Virginia University Research Corporation on behalf of West Virginia University proposes to develop a GIS-based inventory of all abandoned mines in the Upper Freeport coal seam, a source of significant Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) and stream impairment. The inventory will include mine mapping, water quality monitoring, and hydrological investigations on mine pool flooding and discharges. The scope of the project will be northern West Virginia, western Maryland, and southwestern Pennsylvania .
