Project Title & Description
ASTHMA NETWORK OF WEST MICHIGAN
The Asthma Network of West Michigan's (ANWM) project Accessing Systems to Help Manage Asthma (ASTHMA) will focus on Asthma/environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) outreach and education. ANWM's model of education involves sending a certified asthma educator, a nurse, or respiratory therapist into the homes of their patients for up to a year to perform environmental assessments and to teach them and their caregivers about asthma pathophysiology, trigger identification and avoidance/reduction, medications, proper use of devices, and other self-management techniques. In all homes where ETS is detected, patients and their caretakers will be referred to local (free) tobacco cessation classes and encouraged to take the EPA's Smoke-Free Home Pledge.
