Project Title & Description
Healthy Indoor Environments
American Lung Association of Central States (ALACS) will conduct training for health care providers, county and local environmental health officials, and community health workers in, Houston, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma, with an increased emphasis on tribal health care providers and workers. The ALACS will utilize assessment findings to promote Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) training sessions for healthcare workers. These training sessions will comprise outreach and education for at least twenty community health workers and increase the number of tribal healthcare providers conducting environmental histories for patients with asthma.
Anticipated intermediate environmental outcomes of healthy homes and IAQ trainings include increased knowledge of burden of asthma, community resources, and increased use of environmental histories and/or assessments. Anticipated long-term environmental outcomes of healthy homes and IAQ training include an increase in the number of community healthcare providers adopting institutionalized approaches to the environmental management of asthma. This proposals focus on healthcare providers serving these at-risk communities will lead to potential cultural implications and culturally appropriate outreach to increase the
environmental management of asthma.
