Environmental Justice Small Grants Program
This grant seeks to address household hazardous materials and toxic substances. This is a concern expressed by community members through the Community Needs Assessment under the R8 EPA EJ Showcase. Goals of the project are to educate and train community leaders to address environmental and public health risks, educate community about controlling substances in homes, engage community in elimination of contamination and sanitation in community spaces, and utilize peer-based support to provide assistance to high risk families. This project will focus on limited English proficiency individuals. Public education is the primary focus of this grant proposal with education to the community in the form of workshops, educational sessions, community gatherings, and leadership training. Partners imbedded in the community include Utah Society for Environmental Education and area schools. The applicant will conduct outreach to community with outlined outcome of increased awareness about environmental health, reduced contamination, increased santitation, and increased access to environmental resources, with a decreased number of participants facing barries to access resources related to environment and environmental health.
