Project Title & Description
OHIO ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL
Section 793 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 authorizes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support grant and loan programs administered by the eligible recipients that are designed to achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions. The EPA has received funding to award Assistance Agreements under the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. The Ohio Environmental Council will coordinate efforts by municipalities and the airport authority to purchase and install state of the art vehicle air pollution control technologies (the City of Worthington to retrofit 12 diesel vehicles with diesel particulate filters (DPF), the City of Parma Heights to retrofit 9 vehicles with DPFs and 9 closed crankcase ventilation systems as well as purchase DPF cleaning equipment, City of Cleveland Heights to retrofit 5 refuse trucks with DPFs and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority to retrofit 13 vehicles with DPF (9 engines) and diesel oxidation catalysts (4 engines) while retrofitting an additional 3 vehicles with auxiliary power units). It is projected that these retrofits will reduce Particulate Matter 2.5 by 1.86 tons, hydrocarbons by 3.01 tons, and carbon oxides by 16.02 tons.
