Project Title & Description
Indoor Environmental Assessment and Education
This project will impact childhood asthma by providing household trigger identification and caregiver education, including mitigation demonstrations, for children and their families enrolled in the Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area (CARMA) asthma case management programs. Caregivers are educated in mitigation strategies and they will have the knowledge to sustain the mitigation within their households. These families will gain knowledge, skills and understanding about culturally competent home environmental assessment and mitigation education which will be provided by CARMA in a two-day workshop offered twice during the grant year. Lay educators and community asthma educators will also be included in the training. The intervention will occur in a maximum of 30 households due to the variable costs associated with the individualized education and mitigation strategies for each family.
