Project Title & Description
Gulfsouth Youth Biodiesel Project
The Gulfsouth Youth Bio diesel Project's (GYBP) goal is to provide cradle-to-careers programs which introduces 70 out-of-school youth to opportunities in the "Green Collar" workforce. Participants will be trained on the inner-workings of a diesel engine, the environmental, chemical, and mechanical processes of converting used cooking oil and other raw feedstock into bio diesel fuels. Training will focus on the larger implications of alternative fuels and energies, particularly as it relates to global warming and wetlands loss that is threatening the Gulf Coast region's way of life. Graduates of the GYBP training program will have opportunities to work in Operation REACH's Gulfsouth Youth Bio diesel Project enterprise. Several partners are working with Operation REACH to provide opportunities to graduates while training and after training as entry level employees in the "Green Collar" workforce. Environmental Education Priority addressed is Career Development and Administrator's Environmental Priorities addressed are Taking Action on Climate Change; Assuring Safety of Chemicals, Cleaning Up Our Communities; Protecting America's Waters, and Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism & Working for Environmental Justice.
