Project Title & Description
Indoor Air Quality & Water Efficiency Training and Awareness for Residential Home Builders
The Dallas Builders Association, a non-profit organization that represents all segments of the residential construction industry in the Dallas area seeks to enable new home builders to better understand and inform consumers of measures and best practices that can be taken to enhance the indoor air quality and water efficiency of the homes they build. The project will involve curriculum development and training that will be provided at the Dallas BAs facility in Plano, TX. Market and regulatory forces are pushing new home builders to construct more efficient homes with less air leakage. However, a tighter home with less air leakage leaves its occupants more susceptible to potential contaminant either from common household products or the products installed by the builder. As such, builders need to be informed of measures they can take in order to manage these potential risks through their building techniques and by informing home buyers on how to avoid them.
This project will not only enhance the regions environmental objectives, it will also promote the EPAs WaterSense and Indoor Air Plus programs that focus on new homes. Each of these programs is a component of the Dallas BAs Green Built Texas program. Green Built Texas (GBT) is a third party certification program, developed by the Association, that provides a regionally-specific construction protocol for new home builders seeking to build more resource efficient homes. More than 6,500 homes annually are registered to Green Built Texas. The curriculum of these courses will focus on many aspects of the GBT protocol including how to cost effectively implement them on a construction site, and convey value to consumers.
