Project Title & Description
New Bedford Environmental Justice Action Project
This project will document and educate residents and decision makers about the environmental hazards and threats in their community, and especially the potential cumulative impacts of environmental hazards. Through this project, the community will receive support and guidance to work collaboratively and productively with state and federal agencies to create steps to mitigate and reduce impacts of environmental hazards. This will be accomplished through research of the impacts of PCB sediment dredged from the New Bedford Harbor or air quality and potential health effects, create education and outreach tools that provide information on the impacts of airborne sediment combined with the other contatimated sites and pollution sources, and using epidemiology to create an overview of the potential health effects from these sites and estimate cumulative health effects, especially for New Bedford's most vulnerable populations.
