Project Title & Description
Short-term Pollution Exposure and Disease
This project addresses how air pollution impacts individuals with autoimmune diseases. Using health datasets previously collected in multiple cities, researchers will study three childhood diseases (Systemic Onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Kawasaki Disease, and Henoch Schonlein Purpura) with underlying inflammatory response mechanisms. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone have been implicated in inflammatory diseases. This project will test the hypothesis that clinical autoimmune disease and exacerbation are associated with exposures to short-term air pollution.
