Project Title & Description
Environmental Education Capacity Building in Texas
National Wildlife Federation (NWF) will address through this project the development of an environmental literacy plan for Texas, expansion of the use of outdoor classrooms (schoolyard habitats and gardens) for the teaching of science, increased public school utilization of Texas Parks and Wildlife resources, the development of a green schools program in Texas, and other environmental education initiatives. The goal of NWF's proposed project is to build capacity for environmental education in Texas by fostering the implementation of the Texas Strategic Plan to Connect Children with Nature, with a special emphasis on its environmental education components. To achieve this goal, NWF and partners will distribute and promote the strategic plan, produce an implementation plan, organize a conference in January 2011 with 450 educators and policy makers, and organize an implementation action team to secure first-year outcomes and progress toward long-range outcomes.
