Project Title & Description
TAG FOR DIAMOND ALKALI SITE
Passaic River Coalition (PRC) will use funds to help the community (estimated population of more than 2 million) affected by contamination from the Diamond Alkali Superfund Site in Newark, New Jersey to understand complex technical information contained in EPA and potentially responsible party technical documents related to hazardous waste site investigations. Funds will also be used to understand the issues and decisions that need to be made with development of early action and long-term cleanup plans as well as plans and reports related to the non-time-critical removal of contaminated sediment in Newark. PRC's independent technical advisor will continue to review and inform the community on EPA documents related to site cleanup. The technical advisor's information related to the Diamond Alkali site, including the lower Passaic River cleanup and Newark Bay study, will be shared with the rest of the community. The technical advisor's information will aid the community in the preparation of public comments and allow it to more meaningfully participate in the cleanup decision-making process.
