Project Title & Description
FIFRA Special Purpose Activities - Eco-Labeling for California Strawberries
This agreement provides full EPA funding in the amount of $60,000 to implement a certification program for strawberries grown in California's Central Coast, focusing on the elimination of diazinon and chlorpyrifos and drastically reducing the use of methyl bromide on close to 700 acres. This project will also create an Environmental Impact Index for strawberries. The use of such a points based system will allow growers to actually rank and be rewarded for the sustainability of their production practices. The project will increase producer knowledge base by being able to measure and rank where individual grower's performances fall on the sustainable farming continuum.
