Project Title & Description
NS-Baird Creek Riparian Protection
This project supports the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement under the Public Law 112-10. This project will focus on buffer strip installation in key sections of the Baird Creek watershed to reduce agriculture nutrient, sediment and pesticide loading to Baird Creek and ultimately the Lower Fox River and Bay of Green Bay. The project will enhance and protect critical wetland habitat in an area of Northeast WI that contains one of the largest remaining blocks of wetlands in the area. Brown County will partner with the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation to improve local and state water quality goals; educate local officials and citizens regarding the effectiveness of buffer strips; and develop an adopt-a-stream monitoring program through the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation.
