Project Title & Description
Development of Inventory of Privately Owned PCB Transformers
The Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA) will develop an inventory of privately owned polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) electrical transformers within its sewer service area in Camden County, New Jersey. It will also develop a strategy to encourage safe disposal of the equipment. This effort is part of an overall plan to minimize discharges of PCBs to the environment. PCBs are colorless compounds that have been used as coolants and lubricants in transformers, capacitors, and other electrical equipment because they don't burn easily and are good insulators, however they are known to cause cancer in animals and have adverse effects on humans.
