Project Title & Description
Micmacs Air Quality Education and Outreach Project
Through its "Air Quality and Education and Outreach Project", the Aroostock Band of Micmacs will establish a sustainable approach for disseminating air quality information to those who are most susceptible to adverse health effects associated with air pollution, and to provide community education regarding the causes, extent, and occurrence of local air quality pollutants. The project will utilize television and radio airwaves to provide public service announcements to disseminate information about the air quality in the area. The goal of this project is to increase air quality educational and informational resources for residents of northern Maine who suffer from respiratory illnesses; increase capacity for local health care providers to understand and communicate local air quality issues; and to provide measurable improvements in quality of life for asthmatics and others affected by air pollutants.
