Project Title & Description
Investigating Green Schools
Investigating Green Schools will serve K-12 students in the greater St. Louis area. Approximately 500 students in grades 5-8 and eight teachers will participate in this project. This project will involve students and teachers assuming the roles of energy auditors, building designers and green building ambassadors to present the benefits of going green to the public. Teachers and students will present information about green buildings at school board meetings and create public service announcements to get the message out about the advantages of going green. Students, teachers and the community will learn about green schools, steps districts can take to green their buildings and how schools can lead community-wide sustainability efforts. Students, teachers and community members will learn about the environmental and energy consumption impact schools have on the environment and options for reducing this impact. This project has the potential to reach more than 50,000 students in school districts throughout the region.
