Project Title & Description
In Harm's Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development
In Harm's Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development (IHW) will protect and improve children's, pregnant women's and Latinos' health and reduce the effects of toxic environmental exposures. This multifaceted project combines educational outreach to health professionals, including practical tools, to prevent toxic exposures. This will be accomplished by providing grand rounds presentations in hospitals, presentations to practitioners and health outreach workers, a half-day conference in Washington, and guidance materials for physicians and patients. IHW will develop strategic partnerships between leading scientists, physicians and environmental health experts to build local capacity to create an environment safer for children, our most vulnerable population, and safeguard their health, learning potential, and futures. IHW will help providers use information in environmental assessments to recognize pathways of exposure and how to prevent toxic exposures.
