Risk Communication for Shellfish Consumption
Funding is being provided to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to enhance New Jersey monitoring for toxics in shellfish by including pesticides as a toxic pollutant. Monitoring for toxic pollutants in shellfish has been identified as a major component of assessing the safety of shellfish consumption and as a valuable indicator of water quality. This project will allow NJDEP to effectively communicate potential risks to the public and to support the state's shellfishing industry.
