Nonpoint Source Base Staffing and Support
The major goal of the staffing and support program is to reduce the impairment of state waters by nonpoint source (NPS) pollution through the application and implementation of the state's NPS management plan. The Department will accomplish this goal by providing staff and support to carry out activities specified in the NPS management plan including: water quality monitoring and assessment, data management, leadership and assistance to watershed groups and conservation districts to develop and implement water quality restoration plans including “total maximum daily loads” (TMDLs), support for groundwater assessments and Best Management Practices (BMPs) demonstration projects, and continue efforts to inform and educate the public, landowners, land managers, and other resource users concerning the causes and potential solutions for Montana's NPS pollution problems.
