North Central Texas Clean School Bus Program: Blue Skyways
This cooperative agreement is to provide assistance to the North Central Texas Council of Governments - to award subgrants to schools, school districts, and school bus operators through a competitive call for projects. Eligible projects will include any EPA or California Air Resources Board (CARB) certified or verified pollution reduction technologies, including retrofits, upgrades, or bus/engine replacement projects. Replacing and/or retrofitting the greatest number of in-service school buses in the region to net the greatest NOx emission reductions, in addition to reducing other pollutants such as PM, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon monoxide (CO). Replacement of approximately five to six school buses at a 45 percent funding level. Replacing six 1990 model year school buses with 2008 model year school buses. The results of the project will be Reduction of diesel exhaust emissions to aid in the regional effort to Demonstrate attainment of the ozone standard. Reduction in diesel exhaust emissions is to protect the health of school aged children and promote a greater awareness by school officials, school staff, and parents on the importance of such activities.
