Current Status

A Phase 1 Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) was completed on 7/10/1997. A Phase 2 Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) was completed on 9/10/1999. No additional assessment or clean-up of site has been done since 1999. The city of Meriden has applied for EPA's TBA grant and should know soon (June 2003) if they will receive the money. If they receive the TBA funding, the city would use it to do additional testing at site. Also, the city is working on a re-use/conceptual plan for area. There is a bridge located adjacent to property and city engineers may move the bridge onto the brownfields site. The owner of the site, MidState Medical Center, is working with DEP to remediate immediate dangers on site (asbestos) and has hired consultants, Advanced Environmental Interface (contact Joseph Santovasi at 860-349-3559). Currently, the consultants are putting together specs and will be putting out a request for bids to do the work.
The redevelopment plans for site are flexible. There is an owner of an adjecent building to the site that is interested in using some of the brownfields site for parking for his building.
