Policy Studies of the Regulation of Hazardous Waste

  • Abstract
This is an on-going policy evaluation of the current scheme for the regulation of hazardous wastes. It consists of four topics: an empirical study of non de minimis Superfund settlements; a comparison of private and public management of clean-ups; an examination of the incentives for private parties, that are potential defendants in Superfund actions, to undertake clean-ups before the Government brings enforcement actions; and an analysis of the policy issues raised in the design of a complex system that combines ex-ante and ex-post regulation.
