Students have been involved in clean up and development of plot of land belonging to the school district and located across from the school. The community is working diligently to develop this 8 acres into a Nature Center. We are presently in the planning stage of landscaping the area near the creek so that we can more easily access it to do our studies. The purpose of this ongoing project is to educate children about their watershed and help them develop environmentally sound practices in their own lives. The desire is for students to be involved in Virtual watershed activites with other communities and professionals, as well as concentrating on their own community. One note of interest might be that the creek being monitored is one that runs into the French Broad River. We are just 10 miles from the Pigeon River and hope to include both of these rivers in our studies also. As stated, we are at ground level and working hard with the forestry service, water conservation department, TVA, and other to develop our program. Number of Volunteers: approximately 30 at present (not including school members)Date Last Modified: 10/21/2008 10:19:06 AM
