BACKGROUND.

EPA's Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) has requested CASAC advice on the development of netowrk design guidance for near-road ambient air monitoring requirements with a multi-pollutant focus. OAR requests CASAC review of the progress of a pilot monitoring study including site selection, planned measurements, and timeline and review of and recommendations for a first draft Near-road Network Design technical assistance document. The technical assistance document will include assessment of procedures for identifying maximum site location(s) including dispersion modeling and evaluation of potential biasing factors and the review of required and recommended measurements for a near-road compliance network. OAR also seeks CASAC review of the role of alternative technology such as passive measurement in compliance and research monitoring studies.
