Serves as an Assistant Director for sustainability program and provides regional leadership to management in the effort to create a business case in addressing sustainability issues. Integrates sustainability into core processes and decision-making to support principles and the long term plan. Fosters partnerships with various external stakeholders the research community, citizens, international organizations, underrepresented communities etc and develops relationships with internal senior management. Provides leadership role in forging effective multi-program operating relationships in implementing high profile program issues of regional or national significance. Responsible for complex regulatory matters and sensitive policy issues, providing authoritative interpretation and advice, Develops and executes plans for innovative programs and conducts assessment of success. Plans, manages, and coordinates complex multi-faceted projects in alignment with the Agency's vision to reduce carbon footprints, continuously strives for space efficiency, and oversee space utilization needs and leads regional efforts to reconfigure space.

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-15 level, your resume must reflect at least one year of full time experience at the GS-14 grade level defined as experience providing leadership to an organizational program ensuring priorities and goals are met an experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships or team work within an organization.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of EPA organizations and programs. Knowledge of the national sustainability program in order to solve complex environmental and management issues. Ability to communicate orally. Skill in project management. Ability to measure the success of a program. Ability to communicate in writing. Ability to manage/lead large projects. Knowledge of Region 9 organizations and programs.
If you are selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Form prior to your first day of employment and annually thereafter.
This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
You must meet time in grade requirements no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement.

If you are selected, you will serve in either a temporary promotion or a detail. If this position is at a higher grade than your current grade, the assignment will be a temporary promotion. If you are already at the same grade as this position, your assignment will be a detail. While on the detail, your salary will not change.
A temporary promotion will be processed for a period not to exceed two years. It may be extended up to 3 years without further competition or may be made permanent without further competition. If you are detailed, the detail will be not to exceed 120 days, and may be extended in 120 day increments.
You may be returned at any time to the position from which you were temporarily promoted or detailed, or to a different position of equivalent position and pay.
