Efforts to remove Household Hazardous Waste in Vermilion Parish set to begin

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency and local officials have arranged for residents of Vermilion Parish to drop off household hazardous materials on Nov. 4-5.

The drop-off site is located at the end of Birch road and will be open from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Be sure to bring your identification to show you are a resident of Vermilion Parish. No commercial waste will be accepted.

Materials that can be dropped off include electronics, batteries, computer hardware, paint, cleaning solvents thermometers and lawn and garden products.

These materials should be put in separated piles. Containers should be clearly marked. Leaking containers should be put into plastic bags to prevent spills.

Items that will not be picked up include: animal manure and carcasses; human waste and other biological items; needles; and spoiled food or damaged items.

DIRECTIONS: From US Highway 167, turn west on La. Highway 696. After 3.4 mile, turn north onto Birch Road. Continue on Birch Road until you see officials directing traffic.
