Mission Statement
Compliance Assurance is an integral part of environmental protection to achieve cleaner air, purer water and better-protected land. Compliance with the nation's environmental laws is the goal: the assistance, incentive, monitoring, and enforcement tools are vital to encouraging governments, companies, and others who are regulated to meet their environmental obligations. Compliance activities and enforcement actions are organized around environmental problems and broad patterns of non-compliance as well as provisions of single statutes.
The Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) shall lead the regional effort to achieve full compliance with federal environmental laws in EPA Region 10.
OCE will facilitate regional compliance and enforcement efforts by performing the following primary functions:
- Serving as the primary regional contact with the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (Headquarters);
- Setting the tone/model for compliance assurance in the Region and directing EPA regional compliance and enforcement resource allocations;
- Orchestrating regional participation in national compliance and enforcement initiatives;
- Ensuring State/Tribal/EPA agreements are consistent with one another and with national policy;
- Ensuring the thoughtful application of Compliance Assistance, Compliance Incentives, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement activities used to achieve compliance with environmental laws;
- Advocating the use of multimedia, pollution prevention, environmental justice, ecosystems, and emerging strategy approaches in regional compliance and enforcement efforts;
- Holding our partners and ourselves accountable where appropriate to run credible and competent core programs;
- Using the best available information to find and address compliance problems.
